Privacy notice
This website is for information only. It has no accounts, forms or payments, and it does not use advertising or analytics of its own. This page explains the small amount of information that is recorded when you visit, and your rights.
Who runs this website
This website is run by Sonryan Technologies and operated from the United Kingdom. For the personal information described in this notice, Sonryan Technologies decides how and why it is used, which under UK data protection law makes it the responsible party (the “controller”).
What is recorded when you visit, and why
Like almost every website, our web server keeps a log of requests. Each entry records your internet (IP) address, the date and time, the page or file you asked for, whether it was delivered and how large it was, the page that linked to you (if any) and your browser’s description of itself (user agent). Your IP address is personal information.
- Why, and our legal basis: to deliver the website, keep it secure and find and fix faults. This is a legitimate interest of ours (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): we need it to run the site safely, it affects visitors very little, and nothing is recorded beyond what that purpose needs.
- How long: the logs are rotated every day and the most recent 14 daily files are kept; older ones are deleted.
- Who sees them: only the people who run the server. We do not use them to build profiles, for advertising or to identify individual visitors.
Cloudflare
The website is delivered through Cloudflare, which sits between your browser and our server to speed the site up and protect it from attacks. Requests to this site therefore pass through Cloudflare, which handles them (including your IP address and request details) under its own privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Cloudflare may also give us summary traffic statistics (for example numbers of requests); we do not use them to identify visitors. Cloudflare may process information in countries outside the UK; its policy describes the safeguards it uses.
Where it is hosted
Our server is hosted by Hetzner in Helsinki, Finland.
Cookies and browser storage
This website does not set cookies of its own, and it does not use analytics, advertising or other tracking cookies or similar technologies. If you choose a light or dark colour theme with the button in the menu, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device so that it is remembered. It is never sent to us and you can clear it in your browser settings.
Because the site is delivered through Cloudflare, Cloudflare’s security features may set a cookie in some circumstances, for example to tell a real visitor from an automated program, or after a security check. If that happens the cookie is set by Cloudflare, only to keep the website secure, and is described in Cloudflare’s own policy. We will update this notice if the way the site is delivered changes.
Other websites and third parties
Everything on these pages (text, fonts, styles, scripts and images) is delivered from this website itself. We add no analytics, advertising, social media buttons or embedded content from other companies. If you follow a link to another website, that website’s own privacy information applies.
If you email us
You can email us at [email protected]. Email sent to this address is received by Cloudflare (through its Cloudflare Email Routing service), which forwards it to a Gmail mailbox, a service provided by Google, that we read. So Cloudflare and Google handle your message and your email address while it is delivered and stored, under their own privacy policies (Cloudflare, Google), and they may process it in countries outside the UK.
We use your message and your email address to read it and respond, and for nothing else. We do not add you to any mailing list. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us. Emails sent to our support address are kept in our mailbox until we delete them by hand. There is no automatic deletion.
Please do not send passwords or other sensitive details by email.
Your rights and how to complain
Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal information held about you: to be told how it is used and to see it, to have mistakes corrected, to have it deleted in some situations, to restrict how it is used, and to object to its use where it is based on legitimate interests. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We do not make decisions about people by automated means.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first, but you do not have to contact us before complaining.
