IoT and connected devices

We build the software side of connected products: the cloud platform that receives device data, the dashboards your team uses, the apps your customers use, and the links to your other systems. We do not build the devices themselves.

Problems we help with

  • Sensor or device data that sits in a supplier's system and never reaches your team
  • A hardware prototype that needs an app and a cloud back end
  • Alerts sent by email and tracked in spreadsheets instead of a clear dashboard
  • Not knowing whether the idea works before committing to a full build

A good fit if

You make or run connected products, or want to use sensor data in your business, and need the software side built and supported.

What it covers

  • A cloud platform that receives, checks and stores data from devices, for example over MQTT or HTTPS
  • Dashboards and alerts that tell your team when something needs attention
  • Mobile and web apps for setting up and using devices
  • Connecting off-the-shelf sensors and gateways to your own systems
  • A review of how devices and the cloud identify and trust each other

What you get

  • Written requirements: what devices send, how often, and what should happen next
  • A working data pipeline and dashboard, tested at an agreed volume
  • Apps or integrations, as agreed
  • Documentation and handover

Every project follows the same five stages, from discovery to support. See how a project runs.

Where our work starts and stops

  • We build the cloud platform, APIs, dashboards, mobile and web apps, and integrations
  • We build the software that talks to your devices, working from the interfaces your device maker provides
  • We do not build the devices themselves

Not sure it will work? Start small

A fixed-scope pilot is a sensible first step: one type of device, one outcome you can measure, a short report and a clear go or no-go at the end.

Questions about IoT and connected devices

Do you build the hardware?

No. We build the software side: cloud, apps, dashboards and integrations. Firmware, electronics design and certification are outside what we do.

Which connection types do you work with?

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy and cellular are the common ones for the apps and cloud work we do. Others, such as LoRaWAN, need extra planning around coverage and gateways, so we check that at the start.

How are devices kept secure?

We design the cloud side so each device has its own identity and credentials, data travels over encrypted connections, and there is a plan for updates. For consumer products sold in the UK, the manufacturer has legal duties under the UK product security rules, such as no default passwords, a published contact for security reports and a stated support period. We can help prepare the software side, but the manufacturer is responsible for compliance.

Can it connect to the systems we already use?

Usually, if those systems offer an API or a way to export data. We check this in the first stage, before promising anything.

What happens when a device goes offline, and who owns the data?

We design for it: the dashboard shows when each device was last heard from and can alert you when one goes quiet. The data is yours. Where it is stored and for how long is agreed in writing.

Can we start with a small pilot?

Yes, and we would often suggest it. A pilot with one device type and one clear outcome shows what works before you commit to a full build.
